In order to further Portsmouth's cultural development, and to raise awareness of the potential contribution that cultural and creativity activity can make towards local economic development and regeneration, Portsmouth City Council's Culture Group have developed the Creative Thinker process.

Charles Landry and Claire Chidley of consultancy firm Comedia (specialising in creativity, urban design and city-making) will lead the Creative Thinker process with Claire Looney, Portsmouth City Council's Arts and Cultural Development Manager.

The two central issues that will frame the Creative Thinker process are:

· How can Portsmouth feel comfortable and at ease with its existing and emerging identity?

· How can Portsmouth be creative in picking up small and large opportunities and solve any problems it has along the way imaginatively?

The Creative Thinker programme of events and activities will include:

· Initial one to one meetings with local agencies, organisations and individuals

· The development of an issues paper

· Focus Group meetings which will consider key issues

· A series of interviews with other external groups

· Half day workshops on Visioning and Place Shaping using global examples of how cities are developing

· Portsmouth's Big Day - a substantive presentation from Comedia to a large audience
